The Specialized Comic Art Workshop Organized by the Cultural Center of the Imam Ali Holy Shrine

The al-Muhsin Cultural Center, affiliated with the Imam Ali Holy Shrine, has taken another significant step toward enhancing the artistic capabilities of its staff in the field of comics (illustrated storytelling).

As part of the development program administered by the al-Muhsin Children’s Cultural Center, operating under the Alawi Educational Authority of the Imam Ali Holy Shrine, and with the objective of strengthening the artistic skills of its personnel, a specialized workshop in comic art (illustrated narratives) was organized for designers and illustrators in the Publications Unit. This unit is responsible for producing appropriate content for children and adolescents across Iraq.

Muhammad al-Alawi, director of the Al-Muhsin Cultural Center, stated in an interview with the Shrine’s News Center:

“In view of the importance of comic art—recognized globally as the ninth art—and its influential role in children’s literature, training courses were held with the participation of one of Iraq’s foremost specialists in this field. The aim was to enhance the technical proficiency of designers and raise the quality of the works produced.”

Haider al-Kabi, Director of the Publications Unit, explained:

“This workshop focused on strengthening the artistic direction skills of illustrators, as comics combine written text with cinematic framing. A substantial portion of the training was devoted to professionalizing color application and achieving visual balance in scene design, enabling children and adolescents to engage more deeply with the story and interact more effectively with its content.”

It is worth noting that the Publications and Educational Guidance Unit is one of the principal divisions within the al-Muhsin Cultural Center. It is responsible for producing specialized content for children and adolescents in Iraq. With more than fifteen years of experience, the unit has published numerous magazines and printed series that have been well received by readers and specialists in children’s literature.
