According to the Central Media Department of the Holy Shrine, the project is being implemented under the direct supervision of the Shrine’s Engineering and Construction Department, as it represents one of the most vital infrastructure initiatives serving pilgrims and service facilities in the Holy City of Najaf.
The project’s primary goal is to provide a reliable source of water for pilgrims, Hussaini processions, and the Shrine’s various service departments and facilities.
Project Specifications
Engineer Qasim Hatam, the project supervisor, stated in an interview with the Shrine’s News Center:
“The project is being constructed on an area of 6,400 square meters, with a storage capacity of 20 million liters and a height of 4.5 meters.”
He added:
“The project has currently reached 32% completion. Reinforced foundation work and concrete casting are underway, amounting to approximately 3,300 cubic meters of concrete and 440 tons of rebar, executed in accordance with the highest quality standards and international ISO specifications.”
Strategic Importance
Hatam emphasized:
“This project holds exceptional importance, as it will be the largest water reservoir in the Najaf Governorate. The facility will utilize pumping systems certified by international organizations to ensure optimal efficiency and performance. Its strategic location near the Holy Shrine and Al-Hawli Street will facilitate the water supply for Hussaini processions, particularly during major pilgrimage seasons.”
He further noted:
“The project is being executed with the highest construction and insulation standards to guarantee long-term durability. The reservoir’s roof is also being designed to function as a service vehicle parking area, maximizing utility during peak pilgrimage periods.”
In conclusion, Hatam affirmed:
“This project represents a significant step within the Imam Ali Holy Shrine’s developmental strategy to expand and modernize its service infrastructure. It stands as a vital contribution to meeting the needs of pilgrims during large-scale visitations and a valuable advancement in elevating the quality of services provided by the Holy Shrine.”
