Holy Alawi Shrine Holds Specialized Training Course on Manuscript Restoration and Preservation

The Holy Alawi Shrine has held a specialized training course on restoring and preserving historical manuscripts.

As part of its ongoing efforts to preserve cultural heritage and strengthen scientific and cultural cooperation between its various departments and Iraqi universities, the Holy Alawi Shrine — through its Intellectual and Cultural Affairs Department and the Alawi Treasury Section — hosted a group of students specializing in manuscripts from the Faculty of Archaeology and Cultural Heritage at the University of Kufa. The students took part in a specialized training course on preserving, maintaining, and restoring manuscripts.

Ammar Mashallah, deputy head of the Intellectual and Cultural Affairs Department at the Holy Alawi Shrine, told the Shrine’s News Center:

“This program was organized to raise students’ awareness and familiarize them with the historical and heritage value of these precious works, as well as to clarify their role in protecting these treasures and passing them on to future generations. The course included educational sessions on manuscript studies and preservation methods, along with hands-on workshops in manuscript restoration.”

Holding this course falls within the Holy Alawi Shrine’s broader strategy of supporting scientific and cultural initiatives and training specialists who can play a part in preserving, protecting, and serving the Islamic heritage in a manner befitting its historical and spiritual significance.
