After the end of the Battle of Jamal, The Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali (peace be upon him) addressed the people of Kufa with a letter expressing his appreciation for their efforts in supporting Islam and the family of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his household).

He (peace be upon him) wrote:

“May God reward you, people of this city (Kufa), on behalf of the family of your Prophet, with the best reward that He grants to those who obey their leaders and give thanks for His blessings. You heard my command and obeyed; you were called, and you responded.”
