Special Program by the Imam Ali Holy Shrine to Support and Serve the Elderly

For more than eight years, the Imam Ali Holy Shrine has been implementing humanitarian initiatives dedicated to the care and support of the elderly, reaffirming its ongoing commitment to serving all segments of society—particularly the elderly and those with special needs.

In continuation of these noble efforts, the Shrine’s humanitarian and social outreach program, launched over eight years ago in the Holy Province of Najaf, continues to provide essential services and compassionate attention to this respected group.

Implementation Mechanism

Karrar Shakir, Head of Internal Relations at the Shrine’s News Center, explained:

“This program operates under the supervision of the Public Relations Department—Internal Relations Unit, in cooperation with the Service, Religious, Media, Hospitality, and Transportation Departments. According to the plan, four visits are organized monthly across different areas of the Najaf Province—from the city center to its districts and suburbs. Coordination is conducted with local residents and representatives of the religious authorities to schedule visits and determine the number of participants.”

Special Assistance for the Elderly

He added:

“The Imam Ali Holy Shrine provides dedicated transportation to bring elderly individuals from their homes to the holy shrine for the Visitation of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) and safely return them afterward. Each round of the program includes an average of 25 to 30 participants, in an atmosphere filled with care, compassion, and generous hospitality.”

Development Plans

Shakir further noted:

“A plan is currently under review to expand this initiative to other provinces, allowing this noble and humanitarian service to reach a greater number of elderly and physically challenged individuals throughout Iraq.”

It is worth noting that the Imam Ali Holy Shrine places special emphasis on serving the elderly, ensuring that they are granted the opportunity to visit the resting place of their master, Imam Ali (peace be upon him), and to experience the spiritual tranquility and blessings of his sacred presence.
