The Continuous Fragrance Ritual at the Imam Ali Holy Shrine

The perfuming of the Imam Ali Holy Shrine represents an ongoing service aimed at creating a spiritual atmosphere for the visitors of Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him).

The Fragrance Unit of the Shrine Maintenance Department, affiliated with the Shrine’s Custodianship Office, carries out daily perfuming of the interior halls (riwaqs) of the sacred shrine.

These efforts are implemented within the framework of a structured service program designed to provide an atmosphere befitting the sanctity of the shrine and the dignity of its visitors.

Salah Fadhil, a member of the Fragrance Unit, stated in an interview with the Shrine’s News Center:

“The process of perfuming and incense application covers the interior of the shrine, the area surrounding the sacred shrine enclosure, and extends to the outer courtyards.”
He explained that this process is conducted periodically, particularly before the noon and sunset prayers.

He added:

“Specialized teams also ensure the perfuming of pilgrims and shrine servants using fragrances and incense sourced internationally and specially prepared for the Imam Ali Holy Shrine.” He noted that these scents possess a distinctive aroma closely associated with the sanctity of the place, making them especially appreciated by visitors.

For his part, Hasan Habib, one of the shrine’s visitors, expressed his admiration for the atmosphere, emphasizing that the fragrance used within the shrine carries a spiritual connection to the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them). He noted that these scents instill a sense of tranquility and reassurance in visitors, leaving a lasting impression even after they depart.

These efforts form part of the broader range of services provided by the Imam Ali Holy Shrine, aimed at enhancing service standards in a manner befitting the sanctity of this sacred site and its honored visitors.
