Archangel Gabriel Ghadir Sermon

The Presence of Archangel Gabriel After the Ghadir Sermon and the Foiling of a Conspiracy!

A remarkable miracle occurred after the Prophet’s (peace be upon him and his family) sermon at Ghadir, which further established the ultimate proof for everyone: the physical appearance of Gabriel (peace be upon him) in response to a proposal to "share" the caliphate.

One of the plots devised by the hypocrites against the message of Ghadir was a proposal for a “partnership in leadership” after the sermon. In response, God revealed verses 65 and 66 of Surah Az-Zumar:

“And it has already been revealed to you and to those before you that if you associate [others with Allah], your deeds will surely become worthless, and you will surely be among the losers. Rather, worship Allah [alone] and be among the grateful.”

This proposal was rejected in these verses, equating such an act with the nullification of one’s deeds and eternal loss.

The Narrative from Umar’s Perspective

The story is told through the account of Umar ibn al-Khattab, who felt these verses like a heavy blow. After expressing certain objections in the presence of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) at Ghadir, Umar hastily left the Prophet’s presence and encountered a mysterious rider.

Umar narrates:

“Upon hearing these verses, my chest felt tight, and under immense pressure, I fled from the Prophet’s presence. In that state, I encountered an equestrian wearing a yellow turban that radiated the scent of musk.

He said to me: ‘By God, I have never seen a day like today! How firmly he emphasized the matter of his cousin! Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) has bound a covenant for him that no one would break except a disbeliever in Allah and His Messenger, or a hypocrite. Woe to the one who breaks this covenant!'”

Umar continues:

“I asked him: ‘Who are you?’ but the man remained silent. I returned to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) and informed him of the encounter. The Prophet asked: ‘Did you recognize that rider? That was Gabriel! The covenant of Wilayah (guardianship) was presented to you; if you break it or doubt it, I shall be your adversary on the Day of Resurrection. Beware that you are not the one to break this covenant, for if you do, Allah, His Messenger, the angels, and the believers will all disassociate themselves from you.'”
