As part of its early preparations for the holy month of Muharram, the month of grief and mourning, the Holy Alawi Shrine, represented by the Husaini Processions Committee affiliated with the Security Department, organized the second annual “Mashq” Processions Conference in Najaf.
The conference brought together a large number of officials from Hussaini and service processions, in the presence of the Deputy Custodian of the Holy Alawi Shrine, department heads, and officials from various divisions and units.The meeting aimed to coordinate executive and service efforts and ensure the smooth movement of processions and pilgrims during the mourning season. Mustafa Jabbar Muhsin, spokesperson for the Security Department, stated that the second annual coordination meeting of the Mashq processions for the year 1448 AH was convened as the nights of the holy month of Muharram draw near. The gathering was attended by the Deputy Custodian of the Holy Alawi Shrine, Sayed Isa Al-Khirsan, along with heads of the Security, Religious Affairs, and Media Departments, as well as a large number of shrine servants and procession organizers.He added that several important issues concerning mourning and service processions were discussed during the conference. Participants emphasized the need to strengthen positive aspects of organization and identify obstacles and challenges that processions may face during the mourning ceremonies, with a view to addressing them in cooperation with the relevant authorities.
Integrated and Organized Efforts
Muhsin noted that the Holy Alawi Shrine seeks to establish a comprehensive and coordinated operational framework based on joint cooperation among all concerned entities in order to achieve the highest levels of organization and service during Muharram.He explained that the plans developed aim to facilitate the smooth movement of mourning processions. According to the proposed route, processions will enter through Imam Zayn al-Abidin Street, pass along the eastern side of the Holy Alawi Shrine, and continue toward Imam al-Sadiq Street. This arrangement is intended to prevent congestion and overlap along the routes of mourning ceremonies.He stressed that organizational efforts are not limited to regulating the movement of processions but also include facilitating the movement of pilgrims visiting the shrine of Imam Ali (peace be upon him), thereby ensuring the highest possible levels of comfort and security for mourners and visitors alike.
Registration of More Than 900 Processions
Hasan Zaki Ni‘mah, head of the Husaini Processions Committee at the Holy Alawi Shrine, announced that the registration process for mourning and service processions operating within the Old City and the areas surrounding the Holy Alawi Shrine began on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah.
He explained that approximately 900 Husaini and service processions have been registered so far. The Holy Alawi Shrine has also provided various forms of logistical and technical support to these processions, helping to meet their operational and service requirements.In addition, suitable locations and designated spaces have been allocated to procession organizers in accordance with approved organizational plans.

Support for Husaini Processions
Ni‘mah further stated that the Holy Alawi Shrine has prepared extensive venues for mourning gatherings and ceremonies and has ensured the provision of essential services required by the processions throughout the observance of Husaini rituals.He emphasized that the committee continues its daily field operations to complete all necessary preparations and executive measures before the beginning of Muharram. These efforts are expected to contribute to the success of the mourning season and to the more organized and dignified observance of Husaini ceremonies.
It is worth noting that the second annual “Mashq” Processions Conference forms part of a broader set of preparations undertaken by the Holy Alawi Shrine to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Husain (peace be upon him), his family, and his companions during the holy month of Muharram.These measures are aimed at enhancing service standards and creating a well-organized and integrated environment that facilitates the simultaneous movement of both processions and pilgrims.
