Organized by the Women’s Affairs Department of the Holy Shrine in collaboration with the Holy Shrine of Abbas, the gathering marked the anniversary of the Ahlulbayt prisoners’ arrival in Damascus. Around 300 female educators and staff from the Najaf Governorate’s education sector took part. During the event, the route taken by the captives was revisited, along with the lasting manifestations of their patience, resilience, and steadfastness.
The head of the Women’s Affairs Department, Mrs. Ramla al-Khuzai, told the Holy Shrine’s news center:
“This gathering is part of a series of cultural programs organized by the department to honor and keep alive the brilliant stance of Lady Zainab (peace be upon her) following the tragedy of Ashura.” She added: “The participation of educational staff in these programs helps raise awareness of the values embodied by the Hussaini uprising and internalizes those concepts within educational and social environments. Moreover, the collaboration with the Holy Shrine of Abbas in holding this gathering provided the groundwork for a comprehensive mourning program—one that’s meant to deepen the emotional impact of this occasion on the participants and strengthen their connection to the Ahlulbayt’s legacy.”
Alongside various segments of mourning, the program featured theatrical reenactments of the captives’ arrival in Damascus, performed with the participation of a group of pilgrims to Imam Ali (peace be upon him). It was held to recreate the human dimensions of this heart-wrenching event.
