The Department of Maintenance and Care at the Imam Ali Holy Shrine announced the completion of a project to rehabilitate and prepare a landscaped area designed to serve visitors to the Wadi al-Salam cemetery.
This model station was created with the dual purpose of offering essential services to pilgrims while presenting a dignified urban image for Najaf al-Ashraf.
Osama Hassan, head of the shrine’s decoration unit, told Shine’s News Center:
“The landscaping unit, in cooperation with the Engineering and Construction Department, began work on the project. A total of 1,250 square meters was rehabilitated and converted into green space, with resilient trees and grass planted to expand the greenery and provide natural shade. The site has also been fully equipped with service facilities.”
He added:
“The project includes newly built restrooms for men and women, accessible throughout the year, as well as the installation of drinking water fountains operating daily.”
He continued:
“This effort was undertaken to serve visitors who, during religious occasions and mass visitations, come from across Iraq and abroad to visit the resting place of Imam Ali.”
It is worth noting that the Imam Ali Holy Shrine has also launched sustainable initiatives, including the planting of thousands of saplings in schools and streets, as well as large-scale campaigns to expand green spaces in residential neighborhoods. These projects form part of the shrine’s ongoing efforts to restore the natural character of Najaf al-Ashraf and enhance its sacred standing.
