The Dar al-Quran of the Holy Alawi Shrine held a specialized competition in Quranic maqamat, with the participation of 120 Quran students. The competition was held with the aim of enhancing the participants’ skills and deepening their knowledge of Quranic maqamat(traditional melodic modes of Quranic recitation).
Amir Kassar of the Dar al-Quran, speaking to the Shrine’s News Center, stated :
the competition was held with the support of the Deputy Custodian of the Holy Alawi Shrine, and that its purpose was to instill knowledge of Quranic maqamat and strengthen the abilities of Dar al-Quran students in Quranic recitation and performance—an objective in line with the nature of the center’s ongoing training courses.
He added :
the competition’s format involved selecting a Quranic passage and performing it according to different Quranic maqamat. A total of 120 Dar al-Quran students took part in the competition, while a specialized committee made up of Dar al-Quran staff with expertise in Quranic maqamat oversaw the proceedings and evaluated the participants’ performances.
Honoring the Top Performers
He also noted that the competition would continue for three days, concluding with cash prizes awarded to the top three participants—an initiative aimed at encouraging continued progress in Quranic skill development.
It is worth noting that this competition is held within the framework of the educational and cultural programs supported by the Holy Alawi Shrine, programs designed to strengthen Quranic culture and enhance students’ skills in the sciences of recitation and Quranic performance.
