According to Ghadir historical documents, the tradition of congratulations holds a special place in Eid al-Ghadir, as the Seal of the Prophets (peace be upon him and his family) emphasized congratulating on this Eid.
Congratulating the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family)
On the Day of Ghadir, the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) said: “Congratulate me, congratulate me.”
Thus, in some ziyarat and supplications on this day, we congratulate the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family). Believers should recite the supplications and ziyarat of this day, which include the Ziyarat of the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family).
Congratulating Amir al-Muminin (peace be upon him)
On the Day of Ghadir Khumm, after the sermon, the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) sat in his tent and ordered Amir al-Muminin (peace be upon him) to sit in another tent, commanding people to offer him congratulations and felicitations.
After the men pledged allegiance, he ordered women to also congratulate and pledge allegiance.
Amir al-Muminin (peace be upon him) said in the Ghadir Sermon:
“The Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) said: ‘Congratulate one another and make this day an Eid.’ Then he added: ‘These words were commanded by the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) for me to convey.'”
Believers Congratulating Each Other
On this noble day, the manner of interaction among us Shia and the words to be said have been transmitted to us from the Infallible Imams (peace be upon him and his family).
When believers meet each other, after greetings and handshake, they should say this congratulation: “praise be to God that He has made us among those who hold fast to the Wilayah of Amir al-Muminin and the Imams (peace be upon them).”
Imam al-Ridha (peace be upon him) said regarding this:
“It is the day of congratulations; each of you congratulates the other. When a believer meets his brother, he says: ‘ praise be to God that He has made us among those who hold fast to the Wilayah of Amir al-Muminin and the Imams (peace be upon them).'” (1)
A noteworthy point absent from any of the Prophet’s (peace be upon him and his family) victories-whether in battles or other occasions, even the conquest of Mecca-is that on the Day of Ghadir, he said: “Congratulate me, congratulate me, for Allah has granted me prophethood and appointed the household of my Ahl al-Bayt to Imamate.” This signifies a great victory and the complete shattering of the strongholds of disbelief and hypocrisy.
