Rituals and Acts of Worship for Eid al-Ghadir

Eid al-Ghadir is one of the most important Muslim festivals, marking the day when the "Ayat al-Balagh" (the Verse of Proclamation) was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) and the religion of Islam reached perfection. As one of the greatest and most significant celebrations, it involves specific and highly meritorious acts of worship.

Numerous narrations highlight the spiritual rewards and virtues of Eid al-Ghadir, the Great Eid of Muslims. This grand occasion is also described as a day for seeking the fulfillment of needs in both this world and the hereafter.

Recommended Acts and Rituals for Eid al-Ghadir:

  • Performing Ghusl (Ritual Bath)

The Brotherhood Contract (Aqd al-Ukhuwwah): The Day of Wilayah is the day of brotherhood, and the day of brotherhood is the day of Wilayah; these two are inseparably linked by faith. Since faith thrives under Wilayah and believers are brothers to one another (“Indeed, the believers are brothers”), the brotherhood contract is considered one of the established customs of Ghadir.

  • Shaking Hands (Musafahah): A specific supplication is recommended when shaking hands on this day: “Praise be to Allah, Who guided us to be among those who hold fast to the Wilayah (guardianship) of Amir al-Muminin (peace be upon him) and the Imams, (peace be upon them).”
  • Visiting Kins (Silat al-Rahim): Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) stated: “Visiting kin is among the recommended acts on the day of Eid al-Ghadir.”
  • Fulfilling the Needs of Believers: Imam Amir al-Muminin (peace be upon him) said: “I guarantee before Almighty God that whoever takes care of the needs of believers on the day of Ghadir shall be protected from disbelief and distress.”
