Expansion of Woodworking Industries at the Holy Alawi Shrine

The woodworking workshops of the Holy Shrine of Amir al-Muminin (peace be upon him) are witnessing a qualitative leap, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern technology to meet developmental needs.

These workshops operate by integrating manual skills with cutting-edge technology to enhance production quality and supply the requirements of the Holy Shrine’s expansion projects and affiliated institutions. Furthermore, the complex plays a vital role in supporting individual and social initiatives, striving to transform traditional handicrafts into a significant resource for the local economy.

Ahmed Kadhim al-Khatlan, a representative of the woodworking workshop, stated to the shrine’s News Center:

“Operating under the Investment Board, this workshop is responsible for various projects. Key among these are the fabrication of doors and windows for the Holy Sanctuary, office desks, and doors for schools affiliated with the Shrine.”

He added that activities have expanded to external investment projects, including the production of bedroom sets, counters, and office furniture.

Social Initiatives

Al-Khatlan explained that the workshop performs a crucial social role, such as providing furniture sets for young couples as part of the Shrine’s marriage support initiatives. These programs are especially prominent during the birth anniversaries of Amir al-Muminin and Lady Fatimah al-Zahra (peace be upon them), reflecting the Shrine’s commitment to social support and humanitarian values.

Product Quality

He emphasized that all products adhere to the latest technical standards, utilizing globally sourced raw materials. The production is carried out by skilled personnel among the Shrine’s servants, ensuring high-quality craftsmanship and durability.

Production Diversity

Saud Abbas al-Khadhir, Head of the Woodworking Unit, noted that the unit executes a wide range of tasks for both internal and investment-driven projects. This includes manufacturing wooden room sets, sofa sets, doors, decorations, and partitions, all crafted by professional carpenters.

High-Quality Materials

Al-Khadhir pointed out that the workshop utilizes the finest types of wood, such as Beech, Teak, and high-grade plywood, ensuring long-lasting durability and quality for all products.

Modern Technologies

In another section, Hasan Jassim Muhammad, Head of the CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Department, highlighted that the workshop is equipped with advanced digital technology for engraving Islamic patterns on wood and marble. The facility also utilizes precision laser cutting machines.

Artistic Designs

He added that specialized staff use computer software to design and execute various artistic pieces, including wooden art panels, hand-carved works, and intricate Islamic motifs. The aim is to blend authenticity with modern technology to produce high-precision, high-quality artworks. The woodworking workshop of the Holy Shrine is moving toward self-sufficiency for the Shrine and its affiliates. Simultaneously, it supports social initiatives within a developmental vision focused on modernizing manufacturing infrastructure and traditional handicrafts.
