Martyrdom and Burial

On the 19th of Ramadan, in the year 40 AH, while praying at the Mosque of Kufa, Imam Ali (peace be upon him) was struck by the sword of Ibn Muljam, a Kharijite assassin. He endured his wounds for two days. On the 21st of Ramadan, he attained martyrdom.

His son, Imam Hassan (peace be upon him), buried his purified body in al-Ghari, now known as Najaf al-Ashraf. Out of caution against the enemies of the Ahlulbayt, the grave was concealed at first. Today, however, his shrine stands in magnificence, reaching toward the heavens, a beacon for hearts across the world.

The life of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) remains an eternal testament to faith, sacrifice, justice, and devotion to God. His example is unmatched in history.
