Efforts of the Holy Alawi Shrine to Expand Najaf’s Infrastructure

The Holy Alawi Shrine continues operations to improve pilgrim access routes to intersections.

Engineering and construction work overseen by the Holy Alawi Shrine on access routes to the Rasool and Shaikh al-Tusi non-level intersections are progressing swiftly. These initiatives form part of ongoing efforts to upgrade infrastructure and facilitate movement for pilgrims in Najaf’s historic core.

Engineer Ali al-Hafdi from the Engineering Affairs Department told the shrine’s news center:

“Work on the access routes to the Rasool and Shaikh al-Tusi non-level intersections has reached advanced stages, with progress exceeding 65%. The project includes installing interlocking pavement in service streets, as well as security railings on the walls at the Rasool intersection level, with similar measures to follow at Shaikh al-Tusi.”

He added:

“Work continues on installing utility infrastructure networks, preparing entrances and exits, and equipping the side paths of the two tunnels leading to the Holy Alawi Shrine. These steps will ensure smooth traffic flow and pilgrim safety, especially during peak million-strong pilgrimage periods.”

Several shop owners in Najaf’s old quarter expressed gratitude to the Holy Alawi Shrine, praising efforts that have reduced traffic and crowd congestion while enhancing the city’s services and infrastructure.

These projects align with the Holy Alawi Shrine’s vision for Najaf Ashraf’s infrastructure development, tailored to accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims from within and beyond Iraq.
